Figuring it out...The breakthrough

An amazing thing happened today.
It amy not seem amazing to some but it was something that happened when things just click. You know those moments when everything is just right suddenly.
Christmas of 2009 we got a family gift from Santa of Rock band and Lego rock band.
We got lego rock band for the no fail mode for the the little boy who didn’t know how to play well.
For the last 13 months we have struggled playing with him he on Drums and the rest of us between the other instruments. After a few bars of trying to play the right notes or rhythms he would just pound crazily on the drums. It became annoying for the rest of us on many levels and even yesterday he last only about 3 songs before we were all done with him playing. We have had him do the tutorial and he does that well enough but playing a song with the rest of us, seemed to much for him.
Today was a snow day and I made his sister go down stairs and “do something with him” so I could shower.
I came down dressed and refreshed to find her on the drums and him playing one of the guitar controllers.
“I’m playing bass, Mom!” He declared with glee that I hadn’t seen in him while playing this game in a long time.
“He’s actually pretty good, Mom” declared his smiling sister.
I sat and watched him play he was getting 69% and up of the notes played. Even as high as 90% he rarely got more than 50% on the drums. I sat and watched impressed. I know that this is only him needing to hit the strumming bar at the right moment but he was doing better on that then when he was needing to hi the drum head at the right moment.
We played tonight as a family. We played at least 12 songs and we all had a good time. We didn’t get frustrated with him. I even scored lower than him once.
It may have taken more than a year but we finally figured it out.

Lets hope that we can have another breakthrough soon.

  1. That is a great picture and a great story. Sometimes those light bulb moments are really, really satisfying.
