Next version

Please rip this bad boys apart! Comments highly desired.

She was hungry very hungry. It was not the hunger from lack of nutrition but the hunger of one who had not had contact with another being in months. After 3 months of being part of a machine having it take care of all her needs she wanted to talk, to move, to eat.

The ship was finally slipping into open space. This is when she would be able to leave her command seat. The darkness encompassed the small cabin. No stars, suns, or planets and their light and gravity to pull the ship off course and needing a living being to keep it on course.

She could extricate herself from the piloting chair. She peeled her finger pads out of the something or other controls signaling to the ship to go to automatic pilot. She stretched them and began the long task of removing the electrodes from her body suit. As she worked on the process she thought about her decision to take this job. She had taken this run not for the money but to be able to clear her head  before she dealt with the crisis her family will create from the simple transaction of the divorce. She had like Julian but they had nothing in common and neither could maintain the marriage for the sake of the alliance between their families. She hoped that he had faired well at least on Cersis the alliance was not the paramount reason for the arranged marriage. Pandora was not like that, Pandorans wanted alliances to “strengthen family”, even without the possibility of descendants. She had never understood that.

Pulling the last electrode out she was free to move.  Her tails twitched at the thought. Company without politics. Conversation without pretense. She stood stretching her body. The cool air of the cabin sent her fur tail around her body while the throb of the engines made her balance tail stick out. She was glad to be alone as she hated her lack of control over her own body when she stood after sitting so long. She felt a little unsteady on her feet. Although the ship had exercised her muscles as she flew it could not take the place of real movement.

He hunger to eat returned. She began to move towards the cryo-chambers and the food replicators. The emptiness of open space made her lonely. She knew that it was often a practice of pilots to wake a passenger in open space to while away the hours. Although technically against company policy it was never punished and often the cryo-logs would have messages and information about the passengers that would let you know who could be woken.

In a little over a week she would be entering the Oberon system. Her first scheduled company was the medical officer that she would awake in five days. He would awake the others and they would have two days to recover before making port.

She would not get rest or be able to break personal communication silence until after she slept.

Space (second look)

Please see the note on the other space post. This is a re-work. There will be more. Feel free to be very critical.

After three months of being awake the slip into open space was welcome. The darkness encompassed the small cabin. No stars no suns no planets to need her skills to keep the vessel on course.

This was her first paid solo inter-solar-system flight. So far the uneventful trip had been a pleasing vision of space gases, glowing planets and comets. Nothing too close nothing unexpected. She had none of the stimulant side effects that would necessitate waking the co-pilot.  So she was utterly alone. Plenty of time to contemplate her divorce and the turmoil that her family would fall into upon their discovery of the loss of the alliance.

In a little over a week she would be entering the Oberon system. Her first scheduled company was the medical officer that she would awake in five days. He would awake the others just out side the system and they would use two days to fly through the system and the computers would give all that were interested a pretty little tour of the system.

She would finally get to sleep six hours after landing. She would be placed in stasis for two days. Once she was awake she would finally go through all the messages that her family had left for her. The enforced communication silence borne out of centuries of addiction to digital communications was welcome.

But for now the emptiness of open space made her lonely. She knew that it was often a practice of pilots to wake a passenger in open space to while away the hours. Although against company policy it was never punished and often the cryo-logs would have messages and information about the passengers that would let you know who could be woken.

Space...

OK this is serious I am considering entering this piece here.  I know it needs some work let me know what you think. I will not cry if you say don't do it. This is a whim I am having and I will be having 2 other people read it to say yes or no as well.

She was hungry very hungry. It was not the hunger from lack of nutrition but the hunger of one who had not had contact with another being in months. She debated waking one of her passengers. Men always woke chattier than they were ever during normal travel. Women were not much different. Unfortunately she knew little of her living cargo and she didn’t want to end up with some one completely incompatible for the next week.

She had taken this run to clear her head to get off Pandora before the family crisis erupted. Her divorce from Julian was a quite as caul be but the family would not be pleased with the loss of the useful alliance. They would be even more scandalized when they discovered that she had a job that had taken her away from him for weeks at a time. This was her first paid solo inter-solar-system flight. She had not done one since the end of flight school. She had taken this assignment since it required communication silence for the entire trip out. She would not break it for other week and then it would be all business for the planet approach and landing. her family would probably have a few messages for each day saved up for her when she got into port. But before she would read them she would have three days of stasis sleep to bleed off the affects of the waking drugs and get her body back into a normal sleep and waking cycle.

She checked her displays, all was clear. She stretched feeling the muscles in he legs stretch out reaching for the roof of the cabin she was able hear the pops of her joints. A walk though the ship checking on the sleeping units would do her a world of good. She grabbed the remote unit and walked out of the cabin.

Her tail swished as she stood and turned. The feeling was good she had been unable to let it move for the last day with her maneuvers through the Oberon system. Now in open space she had the freedom to get up and walk about the ship.  The remote would let her know if anything was within a day of the ship.

She loved open space and flying it although it was better with company. Maybe she could find out something about her cargo from the cryo-logs.

From Paper to Computer....Cold (1)

I hate cold fingers and toes. Especially when they get so cold they begin to hurt.
As a child I lived my family and I lived in either southern California or England. In California I did get cold but unless I was in the mountains my fingers and toes never hurt. In England I learned to fight the cold toes and fingers with layered socks and hot water bottles.

Through a series of happen stances and hereditary pulling on my internal compass and lack of planning, I ended up in Wisconsin. Wisconsin where winters bring 5 months of subzero temperatures and mounds of snow above my head.

So I layer my socks and wear warm fake fur lined boots that come up half way up my calves. I have heating pads meant for pain relief and with guilt I use them to warm my fingers and my toes. In the end I still miss my English hot water bottles. Wrapped in a quilted cover or just bare rubber with little white plastic screw in stoppers the rectangular pillows of warm to hot water were once my salvation on chilly winter nights now when I live in a much more frigid climate I have none and have yet to find one.

From conversations to paper....

Ever wondered where the Monolith is? You know the one from Arthur C. Clarke’s 2001. It’s 2010 for god’s sake where is it. And aren’t we supposed to be igniting Jupiter this year?
Well all that Arthur C. Clarke predicted has happened. Did you ever wonder about all that money that goes into NASA and the space station. There is a lot more that goes on there than we think. The Monolith did appear but Bush covered it up with distraction and other supposed cover up redirecting through mass global manipulation. What about igniting Jupiter? Haliburtion is working on that and to divert attention from that by being a complete jerk to Obama. The louder he spouts the more we need to look behind the curtain.

But this is just a crack pot theory. My mother and I have many of them they are a dime a dozen. But who knows? Maybe I am right and it is all a big conspiracy.

Pencil and Paper

Some times belive it or not when the muse takes me I don't have my lap top in hand or near by.

I did find paper and pencil though.

I know you cna't read that. Pencil does not scan well. I plan to type them, and edit as I type. Yes there are 2 pieces here, they are all about cold toes.
