Space...

OK this is serious I am considering entering this piece here.  I know it needs some work let me know what you think. I will not cry if you say don't do it. This is a whim I am having and I will be having 2 other people read it to say yes or no as well.

She was hungry very hungry. It was not the hunger from lack of nutrition but the hunger of one who had not had contact with another being in months. She debated waking one of her passengers. Men always woke chattier than they were ever during normal travel. Women were not much different. Unfortunately she knew little of her living cargo and she didn’t want to end up with some one completely incompatible for the next week.

She had taken this run to clear her head to get off Pandora before the family crisis erupted. Her divorce from Julian was a quite as caul be but the family would not be pleased with the loss of the useful alliance. They would be even more scandalized when they discovered that she had a job that had taken her away from him for weeks at a time. This was her first paid solo inter-solar-system flight. She had not done one since the end of flight school. She had taken this assignment since it required communication silence for the entire trip out. She would not break it for other week and then it would be all business for the planet approach and landing. her family would probably have a few messages for each day saved up for her when she got into port. But before she would read them she would have three days of stasis sleep to bleed off the affects of the waking drugs and get her body back into a normal sleep and waking cycle.

She checked her displays, all was clear. She stretched feeling the muscles in he legs stretch out reaching for the roof of the cabin she was able hear the pops of her joints. A walk though the ship checking on the sleeping units would do her a world of good. She grabbed the remote unit and walked out of the cabin.

Her tail swished as she stood and turned. The feeling was good she had been unable to let it move for the last day with her maneuvers through the Oberon system. Now in open space she had the freedom to get up and walk about the ship.  The remote would let her know if anything was within a day of the ship.

She loved open space and flying it although it was better with company. Maybe she could find out something about her cargo from the cryo-logs.

  1. I like it Vicki! I don't know much about the contest or what level of writing people usually submit, but I would say go for it.

If you do submit, will you expand on this or does the 500 word limit apply to the short story pieces too?

  2. 500 is the limit less is OK. I may expand it later.

One of my other readers wants more too... I am about to post another in some ways rougher version.

IF i can get it to where I want it and have the reveal of the cryo-logs in under 500 words I will submit. I just have 10 days to make this work.
