A Victorian tale part four (or possibly 3.5)

They left gathering the picnic satchel that he had brought and blanket from the entrance hall along with her hat and parasol.  She felt his eyes on her as she delicately fastened her hat with the pin. Her hat was new like her dress. It has some purple silk flowers and iridescent feathers in a bow at the back of the demure stovepipe hat. The loose ends of the bow fell over the brim and to the nape of her neck. It was a pale grey to match the main color of the fabric of her dress.

He opened the door for her and stepping out into the sunshine she opened her parasol. He stepped down the few steps to street level and summoned a cab. When the horse and buggy approached she was pleased to see that it was an open so they could enjoy the fine weather.

They took the short ride to and into Hyde Park and she marveled at the construction happing on the west side for the forthcoming world’s fir a palace made completely of glass. What an extravagance! Samuel and Charlotte talked easily about what they saw on their ride and about where they should lay out the blanket to eat.

  1. This shows good movement and builds on the ease in their relationship. It also says again that Samuel is interested in her for less than decent reasons... as well as decent ones, at least I hope.

So, from here, the obvious question becomes where will they picnic? Possibilities? Someplace secluded which would probably be a little risky and risque. Or someplace public in order to ensure their characters are not demeaned. Do they see someone they want to avoid? Are they wandering, lost in conversation when they discover a small alcove? Does Samuel suddenly become a brash gentleman and tell her what he is thinking? Does she responded with passion or protective behavior? Does any of this help? Good luck! I am awaiting the scene in your head!

  2. I have a the bit after the picnic written and I think you will be surprised.
The hardest part is getting them there. I think I may just have to work backwards. I wonder If I can do that.
