A little over 11 years ago my parent came to visit their eldest grand child. Most weekends My little girl and I holed up in the apartment while my husband worked his second job.  My mother decided on this grey and snowy day that we needed to get out o the apartment.

We all bundled into the car. Strapping my baby in  her car seat and headed for the Mall the only place in Wisconsin safe from the weather in the winter for walking.

As it was lunch time we headed for the food-court. As my mother and father went to get food for the three of us I settled my self and my daughter at a table and got out the container of homemade baby food.

My parent returned with goodness from various places and some hot water to warm the baby food. As my daughter worked on a teething biscuit and cheerios I ate some of my food. I then fed her. She was not very hungry and ate only a few bites. My mother began to question me on what she had tried and what she could eat. She asked about potatoes and I said she had had some special baby mashed potatoes and liked them. Hearing that She liked Potatoes My mother gave my daughter a french fry.

I started and was concerned as the toughness could choke her as she had yet to eat chew able things. She loved it. She sucked on it and gummed it to her delight.

It was her fist forage into junk food and so started the slippery slope.

Miracle

It started about a month ago. I started to discovered my feet under soap scummy water mid way through my shower. The tub was not draining well and it was causing a bad soap scum build up in the tub. This is when I began the shower dance. I would swipe my foot over the honeycombed cover dislodging any of the hair that had collected and stamping on the drain as if to plunge it with the ball of my foot.

We tried the plunger. It hinted at change but really things didn’t improve. We would get a good “glug glug” of water movement then nothing.

We tried a snake. You know one of those metal ribbons that are supposed to go down and either grab or break up the clog.  We discovered that there is a metal cross bar about two inches down the drain. Impassable for the end of the snake.

We removed the long defunct drain plug assembly. There was no sign of a hair build up on it.

All this did not show any change in the flow of the drain. I continued my shower dance. Something that began to feel superstitious and in effective but gave me a sense that I was trying to remedy the probklem

I was reluctant to use drain-o or other such heavy chemical in the tub where my chemically sensitive son sits his naked butt or where I stand with bare feet. Especially since many of those really don’t work on slow drains just clogged drains.

So after an internet search I tried vinegar and baking soda. A few days later we tried some color safe bleach. Still no changes.

Nothing was working and the problem seemed to be getting worse. I decided that I would try an enzyme cleaner. More gentle on the pipes not chemically smell. So we tried that a week ago. There was a small change but nothing much I was considering a second dose after my shower this morning.

Because of that decision I decided that I would contribute to the clog and shaved my legs. I have always thought that shaving in the tub although convenient causes drains have more build up than if one did not.

So after shaving and in the midst of washing my hair I felt the water reach my ankle. Out of habit I swiped my foot across the drain and stomped on it. Suddenly and most unexpectedly I heard a slight sucking noise. I turned and longed at the drain as the sucking gave way to a loud glug. I could see the tell-tale whirlpool of an active and clean drain drawing out the water from the tub. It was surprising since it had happened so suddenly and because it was so loud. I kept expecting the kids to come running up telling me where the pipe had burst and that the kitchen was flooding.

That didn’t happen and I was no longer standing I water. I finished my shower and rinsed the tub better than it had been in weeks. The sudden clearing of the drain seemed so much like a miracle to me this morning.

Tattoos from 7 days 7 answers

I have one Tattoo on my left shoulder of a dragon. It was easy to choose as dragons have been important in my life since I was a young girl listening to the stories my dad was reading me.

Now as a mother of two I want to celebrate my kids they have very graphic names Griffin and Holly. The problem being is I don't want a Christmas tattoo. I am really stuck as to what it should look like. I also have trouble about where to put it as although my right shoulder and the out side of my right hip are my current thoughts.
I know some day it will happen.

The End of the World

I stood and began to take stock of what I had. Two quilts a t-shirt and shorts and one shoe. I knew that I couldn’t get any where easily with one shoe. I could see shards of glass all around. And there sticking out of a pile of rubble was the distinctive purple of the jacket that both my daughter and I had. If it was mine may be I would find more contents of my closet. Indeed there was some clothing from my closet along with the jacket 3 unmatched shoes, a pair of my husbands jeans, a belt and a large gold scarf.

Digging some more through the rubble I was able to find a few keepsake picture of my family one of the bears my mother had made for one of my kids and my daughter’s knitting project. The useful items were an old backpack with a faulty zipper, a roll of duct tape and a can of kidney beans, and my favorite thermal mug with the sealable lid.

The Duct tape felt like the biggest win. I had hoped for some more survival tolls my son had a collection of compasses and swiss army knives that I wish I had found one of, or one of the many hats we had had but I knew as I walked I would find other useful things.    At least of the mismatched shoes I had two that were similar enough to be functional and I could make the clothing work. I packed up what I had found and using my knowledge of the area headed toward the first place I could think of to get some more supplies, the Super Target.

It took a little bit but I was able to begin to see familiar landmarks through the rubble. The garden center provided a walking stick. It was some sort of shovel handle but was the right length and sturdy enough to help with poking through rubble and helping to make sure that the ground was solid in front of me.

The hill that led up to the super target worried me as much of it was man made and I was worried that some of what had happened was an earthquake that would disturb the construction.

Some beginings: Which to work on...

These are very rough and need a ton of work but which would you like to see more of soon?

 The End

Devastation, Eradication. That is what I saw, I thought of it was the end. I thought I was alone some how the only one who had survived. I wanted to mourn my family and friends but I didn’t know how. Mourning seemed so social and there was no-one else. It was much later that I would learn that there was a pulse radiation bomb that pulverized anything and any one in its direct path. How I or anyone managed to be out of that path even the science could not complete explain it to me.
As with most shocks to the system I could not remember where I was when it happened nor could I remember that day. Every day before and every day after I could remember, at least some of, after all I am only human.

I awoke in what I figured out was a corner of my house. It was all that was left standing above ground. I had been near by or made my way back there and I had wrapped my self in my children’s quilts. When they were small I called them their magic blankets and that they could protect them from anything. They hadn’t protected them from this. The morning, although who could say what time it was, was cool and I wrapped my self in the quilts. I didn’t know what to do. The devastation around me compared well to that of my emotional state. I sat unblinking for a long time before the pain in my unmoving legs gave me a reason to move. I stood and began to look around.

I could remember kissing my husband good bye in the morning. When was that? I wasn’t sure what happened next. I had no memory of any next events until I woke up in what was left of my house. This was a puzzle to put together. But survial was the first order of business.

Carry Reaper or The Bargain
“You called?” The voice came from nowhere and everywhere.
She sat up and looked around. He face still damp from the tears and her stomach aching from the sobbing.
“Who said that”
“Oh sorry”
The voice came from the door way but she swore that there was only a shimmer for a couple seconds before a man in a black suit appeared in it.

“Who are you?”
“I have many names and titles and they have changed over the years. I like to be called Carry. My title I think you know as Death.”

She gasped at this. She had never really believed that such a being existed although she had often believed that one could bargain on one on with Death for one’s own life. She was confused to his presence as she had been given a clean bill of health just yesterday and He had said she had called.

“I don’t know if or how I called you.”
