An egg in a box.

At the end of Thing-A-Day (wow did that end only 3 weeks ago?) A friend and fellow participant posted this challenge:

"Send me instructions how to make something impossible, imaginary, not yet invented. Extra appreciation for detailed drawings/diagrams on graph paper."

So this is what I am starting with I think I will include pictures and an egg in a box at end. Maybe a pretty one. I missed his 41st Birthday after all.

How to safely mail an egg in a box.

Materials:

Long thin box
Egg
Packing peanuts or other cushioning packing material.
Packing Tape
Scissors/Box cutter/knife
Ruler
Pen or pencil
Postage and address

Method

1. Wrap the egg in packing material to cushion it. The more the better.
2. Place wrapped egg on surface an measure height of egg from surface to top of wrapping.
3. Place wrapped egg into one of the small ends of box.
4. Tape that end of the box shut.
5. Measure end of box with egg toward other end to make the height of egg plus ½ an inch. Draw a line around the box at this point
6. Cut box on three sides at the line . Create a flap by opening up the empty end.
7. Fold flap over now open box.
8. Trim flap to half an inch beyond the box.
9. Trim the over lapping flaps in such a manner so that they can fold neatly over the edge of the box.
10. Tape securely shut.
11. Weigh, address and apply postage to box.
12.Give to you postal carrier.

  1. Hmmmm... I didn't see anything about hard boiling the egg first or lying to the postal worker who asks if it is anything perishable.
